Night Asthma

Question:

I’m really concerned about you using Primatene Mist. It can kill you. People have had heart attacks from using that stuff. My doctors have all threatened to whack me upside the head repeatedly if they ever catch me using it. If Ventolin isn’t doing it for you, please tell your doctor. If you guys work together as a team I’m sure you can come up with something better. Jimmy Mac

Hi Jared, Beware of the reply from sweber.  It sounds like a SPAM and sweber could be selling a product that could at the least do nothing for you or it could damage your health.  If a person isn’t up front with what they’re talking about and trys to lure you to a website, it’s usually a scam.  Night asthma can especially be a bummer because it intterupts your sleep.  If you can’t sleep and are fatigued, asthma symptoms can become worse.  Try to see a Dr. at an Asthma/Allergy clinic if you are able.  Otherwise, try to get a referral to someone who specializes in the treatment of asthma.  Self medication for this disease/condition can be really disastrous — even deadly. Terri – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello all, This is the first time I have posted to this group.  I am basically just looking to see if anyone has had experiences similar to mine. I was diagnosed with bronchial asthma at six years of age.  I am now twenty-six.  I tend to think that my asthma problems are mild, i.e., I do not have to take medicine all day and do not have frequent major attacks. However, not a night goes by that I do not use Primatene Mist before going to sleep.  Every evening as it gets darker outside, I start to wheeze and have a harder time breathing. I have tried several prescriptions, including Azmacort and Vento-something-or-other, but nothing seems to work better than the good old over-the-counter Primatene Mist.  Anyone else find this weird?  I would think the doctor could prescribe something better than this, but I have not found anything yet. Anyway, the point of this email is that I do not want to be chained to the inhaler forever(even though I have been for twenty years.)  Has anyone had a similar problem and found a good treatment? Jared

Hi Jared You may be especially sensitive to dust mites if the problem is occuring mostly at night and in the bedroom Consider dust-mite covers for mattress and pillow Remove carpeting in bedroom, if there is any.  Carpet is notorious for holding in dust and other unhealthful things Wash all bedding on 130+ at least once per week dust/vacuum 2-3 x per weel consider an air cleaner for the bedroom Regards, Laura Southard Healthy Environments Seattle, WA http://healthyenvironments.com 800.511.7732 Healthy Homes and Offices Resources – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello all, This is the first time I have posted to this group.  I am basically just looking to see if anyone has had experiences similar to mine. From what you describe it sounds likley that you have at least ‘moderate persistant asthma.’ What you need to do is get the airways inflamation that causes asthma symptoms under control.  Azmacort is one of the weaker asthma medications and is generally the first to be tried (and discarded).  You should talk to your doctor about a referral to an asthma specalist who can more aggressively treat your asthma.
