Migraine, Colitis, Liver Dysfunction
Question:
First I am not a doctor. They have to do with biochemistry. Just like what one eats(caffeine or pain meds for example) can effect a migraine. These buggers may produce a chemical or are themselves absorbed like the food you eat is absorbed. My personal mini theory has been the possibility of liver problems because of the description of a hang over is close to what some of my headaches/migraines are like. Never really had a hangover from booze just chocolate cake :^) Its great to hear of +real+ research not just *lets try this pill* research. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – B – b – but – I don’t understand how something in my stomach could trigger something in my head? shauna

H-Pylori is in the gut……from what I understand primarily in the upper stomach. But I wonder if something isn’t stemming from our immune systems..hmmm Het

Oops – I meant to address you as Het, not Phil. My mistake! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Phil – Where does the H Pylori reside when it is associated with migraine? In the Bowel? Or the Head? Are there any people with H Pylori who only have the headaches? My mother, and grandmother have colitis – no headaches – my aunt – headaches – no colitis. Me – a wonderful combo of headaches and IBS. hmmmm shauna Interestingly enough, I have Crohn’s Disease, Migraines and GERD (Gastro-Esophogeal Reflux Disease). The bacteria you mention is called H-Pylori which is known to cause GERD symptoms in a lot of people and can be cleared up with antibiotics. Unfortunately, that is not my case. (I’ve been tested). I read two boards, this one for headaches and the other for IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease). And I find that a lot of people have both headaches and IBD. My theory (and I’m not a Dr.)is that it could be related to our immune systems. IBD is an inflammatory disease…so who knows? I wish that the Dr’s did!!! What do you think? Oh yea, all of my diseases mentioned are in my family history too….hmmmmm. Het

Hi! Here’s an odd one for you. I’m trying to verify the claim of a colleague, who says she’s found evidence of a correlation between her husband’s migraines, his Ulcerative Colitis, and some sort of liver dysfunction. I’m a long-suffering migrainer, and have never heard of such a connection. But who knows about all those ghosts in the human machine? Anyway, anybody heard of anything resembling this? Thanks!
Response:
I only have heard of some microbial bacteria that lives in your stomach and can cause ulcers and colitis. They recently found this bacteria – and also noted that there was some correlation – migraine sufferers had the same bacteria present ( can’t remember where it was ) – anyway – so the happy ending is – anti biotics do not clear the headaches up but can help the colitis.( yay ! ) As for the Liver…….no clue.
