Am I going cazy or what?
Question:
Dear Lorie and (?); I picked up this group because I had endometriosis for years and had two surgeries before I had a complete hysterectomy two years ago. I wanted to see if there was anyone here who might be new to it and was wanting to provide some help and reassurance. I too have had the same, dull (sometimes sharper) ongoing pain in my lower right quadrant and lower back. This last year, I’ve taken to laying sideways on a heated "bed buddie" because the pain is indeed apparently radiating around my side before it settles in my lower back. I have wondered for a long time about going to see a doctor for my colon. I’ve also wondered if it was possible the surgery left adhesions or if there were tiny pieces of endometriosis that the surgery missed and that has grown. I haven’t had enough money to go back to my GYN to really have it checked, nor have I attempted to see a colon doctor. However, everything has changed since I read these two posts because I don’t feel so alone…wondering if it is just in my head. When finances pick up, I absolutely will see both doctors. *PLEASE* let me know how the GI goes. THANKS!!! Octavia

I have had endo since age 17 (31now) and have head many surgeries for endo and cysts. Ever since my last surgery I continue to have the same pain in the lower (very low) quad of pelvis (same pain I had BEFORE surgery). It’s sharp at times but usually "just there" and very annoying. I am bloated a lot and it sometimes radiates to my back. My periods are not unusually heavy, they vary(Sometimes they are light, sometimes not). Is this endo.related ? Could it be something else and if so, what? I had a massage there and it felt better for a coulpe of days. Recentlya doctor (gastro. doc) pressed there it I about jumped of the table! Is there any way you can make a cyst rupture on it’s own? If anyone can help me I would REALLY appreciate it! I feel very alone and confused!
Lorie, Your posting is very comforting to me. I have the exact symptoms you describe: bloating, pain very low in the pelvic area (right side for me), pain sometimes radiates to my back. I was told I had endo many years ago. I just learned to live with it. Then I had a complete hysterectomy. I was told that I couldn’t still have endo, but on reading some of the postings I see that isn’t necessarily true. I may also have adhesions since the pain seems to be a little worse now. The reason I’m comforted, is I’m scheduled for a Lower GI tomorrow which is usually for Colon Cancer screening. Even though my doctor thinks it’s adhesions he wanted to be sure it isn’t anything serious. I’ve been a nervous wreck. Your note has been a comfort. made me feel better. Thanks! Lorie

Hi, Lorie, I had pain after surgery too, same pain as before. Trust me you don’t want to have a cyst rupture on its’ on. That happened to me and I would up in the ER and had to stay overnight. It’s really bad. I had the cyst rupture and the fluid leaked into my abdomen which is what caused my bloating and pain in the stomach. Were you checked for irritable bowel disease that causes stomach problems and pain too. I have that. Basically, everything that "we" get is endo related. Take care and don’t feel alone, I felt that way too until I found this newsgroup the people here are great and really know how to make you feel welcome and "sane" ~Amanda

Lorie, I am not a doctor, but abdominal pains that radiate to the back may ne a sign of gall stones-you may want to have that checked out as well. I had similiar symptons as you do and it was my endo. I always felt bloated and gassy. I had abdominal pain so bad one time, my doctor was not sure if it was my appendix or not and admitted me to the hospital for three days (it turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst) As far as I know, you cannot make a cyst burst, it bursts when it’s ready and that can be VERY painful. I pray I never have that happen to me again! I hope this helps you. You are correctly thinking endo and cyst, but your doctor should not rule out stones. Good Luck! Joanne
Response:
Lorie, I agree with Joanne. I have had gallstones and gallbladder removed. Its a very dibilitating pain. But so is kidney stones. Get dr to accuratley diagnose whats causing pain. I also had severe throwing up with gall stones. Both kind of stones leaves you in double over pain. I’m new to endo but this pain is lower than I experienced with stones. Good luck, Catherine

Actually, I had a not-so-gentle doctor rupture one during an exam. Talk about pain! -Michelle W.
Response:
Dear Lorie, It sounds as if you are still having trouble with endo., but you might want to ask your doctor if there is any possibility of any kind of nerve damage (because of the same pain that you had before surgery) I have this problem and it is the same kind of pain that I had before the lap and the hysterectomy. Just a possibility. I am glad you found this group. It does most of us a world of good to come here because here we are not alone. You are now in the midst of a great group of really caring women who know just how you feel. I hope your doctor can help you. If not please look for one who will. Did the gastro. doc think that you might have adhesions that could be pulling on your colon and making it hurt the way it does? Please take care and keep posting! Peace, Birgit
