Crohns & arthritis
Question:
(SNIP) I’m curious about the vertigo. I have low blood pressure and, due to Crohn’s do not absorb B-12 well. I will quickly pass out in hot weather. Sometimes even standing up too quickly will leave me dizzy. Monthly B-12 shots have helped me a lot. Your body needs B-12 to regulate your blood pressure, especially when you do something that causes your blood pressure to need to shift quickly, like standing up fast. Lorraine
Hi Lorraine, I get these "spells" once in a while……dizzy, nauseaus feeling, with sparkles in front of my eyes….Happened day before yesterday to me while grocery shopping. I do have low blood pressure and low blood sugar. When these "spells" come on I usually have to sit down, put my head between my legs, and wait for my pulse rate to drop. Then I drink some juice and within about five minutes am ok. So far this has only happened when I’m on the go…..not when I’m sitting or laying down. Scary feeling, though, isn’t it???? I have CD. A few years ago my whole system went berzerk and I ended up with an ileostomy after a colectomy. The result was very good, and all of the Crohns symptoms went away. I had arthritus in my knees and it was bad enough that it was hard to walk. I also had pyoderma gangrinosum (sp?) and I suspect I was even a bit diabetic. The good news was that nasty as these crohns related symptoms were, they were temporary; except the pyoderma left some scars. The biggest problem is that these things tend to get misdiagnosed. It is not "real" arthritus, it is CD. NC

I’ve had arthritis come and go from severe to non-existant over the years, depending on the state of my Crohn’s activity. I, too, saw a rhematologist with good results. For me, no drug got rid of the pain (and I tried at least half a dozen of them), but most dulled it. For a couple of joints that just wouldn’t subside I got cortisone shots with great success. Hi Lorraine, I do take B-12 shots monthly out of necessity due to a resection. I’m sure that’s not the problem. The vertigo started about the same time as the fatigue and joint pain. Also, the vertigo seems worse at night while lying down and in the mornings. Just rolling over in bed makes the room spin. After getting up it in the morning it takes about an hour to feel really stable. I am beginning to suspect fibromyalgia. Anyway I see the rheumatologist Monday. Regards Diana
