best place to live with asthma

Question:

My four year old son has had serious asthma associated with colds for two years now, and I’m seriously considering a relocation to Hawaii where there is no winter (thus, fewer respiratory illnesses) and less air pollution than where we now live in central New Jersey. Anyone done this? Know anyone who has done this with good results?

Response:

Hawaii has emissions from volcanos (sulfur based) which are hazardous to asthmatics.  There is also extensive pesticide use in Hawaii, not to mention pollen.  Are you sure this is the ideal place?

Response:

You may wish to go for a long visit before you move…. Hawaii has active volcanoes ….. the gases from these can be very bad on some asthmics…. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -(RoyJac) writes: My four year old son has had serious asthma associated with colds for two years now, and I’m seriously considering a relocation to Hawaii where there is no winter (thus, fewer respiratory illnesses) and less air pollution than where we now live in central New Jersey. I moved from N.J. I was told if you dont move you wont live through another winter. South Florida has been a blessing for me. N.J. is second only to L.A. in air pollution. South Fl is second cleanest. No smog you can see for miles. Mitch

Hi there! I’ve just returned (an hour ago) from another two exhausting nights in hospital with my son of 21 months. He’s had chronic asthma since he was 18 mths old and is rushed into IC by ambulance once every 6 weeks on average. It’s a family thing that sadly I’ve passed on and no, I don’t smoke and we have no pets. New Zealand’s  notorious for asthma problems (pollen & damp, cold weather…) and I’m tired of my little chap being stuffed full of steroids such as Ventolin, Becotide & Betnizol. How can I find out which countries are asthma problematic & which have a lower incidence? I’m willing to move to give him a chance at a normal life. Please help. Our thanks in advance. I had my best breaks in air polluted Orange County California.. try to teach your son to breathe through his nose, and try to teach him to hold his breathe for about 20 seconds and then breathe very, very slowly for a few minutes several times a day..especially when he goes to bed put a symbolic tape accross his mouth to encourage him to breathe his nose.. and when he runs around and jumps up and down teach him to breathe through his nose.. |-| /- |-< |-< |||
