Pred foam and Asacol

Question:

Asacol can cause kidney problems in some, although I have never had a problem. Every Body is different and react differently to different meds. I have never had problems with Asacol, but I do get tested at least once a year to see if there are any abnormalities showing up in my blood. — Life is not a movie. Everybody lies. Good guys lose. My GP says not really, but what does not really mean? Does it thin my colon. I’m trying to get off it as its a pain, but I’ll take my time b) The amount of Asacol I’m taking, again any probs here? c) Does Alcohol cause probs? d) Can UC turn into Chrohns? I’m getting married shortly, so fingers crossed that I will stay ok. Good luck to you all Steve

Steve, My 11 year old daughter is on 6 Asacol tabs a day, and doesn’t seem to be having any problems at all.  We are currently trying to get her off the prednisone.  She has the rounding in her face, and some joint pain.  We just finished the rowasa (Asacol) suppositories about a week ago.  They were a pain.  I don’t believe that UC can turn in to Crohns.  Well at least according to my daughters gastro.  My best friends husband has had Crohns for roughly 20 years and I can say that he is doing well with minimal flare ups and no meds at all.  He has been off the Asacol for a little over 2 years and continues to do well.  So that gives me hope that my daughter won’t be on Asacol forever.  Congrats on the marriage. Leslie
