"External" Chrohn"s??!

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Any of you folks ever heard of this? A few months ago I developed a patch of puffy, irritated skin on my stomach, near my navel. It was both sore and itchy at the same time. Over time, it got bigger and bigger, and nasty too. Since then, I’ve developed a couple more in the same area. They seem to go in stages where they settle down, then flare up. It’s pretty gross – they "seep" constantly. I have no doubt that after they clear up (if?) they’ll leave significant scars. They’re right around a 2 year old incision from a previous re-section. I’ve spent a couple hundred bucks trying every cream/ointment available to no avail. One of my Drs suggested a gluten free diet, thinking it might be celic’s, but after being on the diet for 6 weeks – no improvement. I finally saw my GI specialist a couple of weeks ago, who said it was a manifestation of my crohn’s. I did a little research without finding much out, but I did marvel at what appears to be quite a similarity between what the inflammed area on the outside of my skin looks like, and pictures of what active chrohns does to your innards. Weird. (and a little unsettling…)

I have external crohns in my umm, how do you say it nicely? in my rear. I thought it was a rash I was wondering why it would never go away and the doc said it is some external cd. Nice huh? Rachael

This sounds ver much like a condition I had 3 years ago.  I finally went to a dermatologist because it was spreadding down one leg and onto the other and made me wild with discomfort.  Turned out it was a disorder called lychen planus that is an auto-immune disorder that they are discovering happens to Crohn’s patients to one degree or another of severity.  I suggest that you see a dermatologist and get a biopsy done right away.  The treatment for this is a type of radiation therapy.  You don’t want to let it get as advanced as mine did.
